Lockers Legislation – What You Need To Know
Under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 employers have an obligation to provide suitable, secure and sufficient accommodation for clothing as well as suitable and sufficient changing room facilities for persons who are required to change into special work clothing to perform their job. This includes accommodation that may provide separately for the storage of wet or otherwise contaminated clothing from the workers own clothing. The facilities should also have adequate seating. Specifically configured lockers and changing room benches can help to assist in the compliance with these regulations.
The Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 require that any personal protective equipment used in the workplace is suitably stored and maintained. Accommodation that affords suitably clean, dry and secure storage should be provided so that the equipment is readily usable when needed.
