Storage and Containers Legislation – What You Need To Know

While there is no specific legislation that applies to storage boxes and containers, under The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, they should be suitable for the task at hand.  They should have sufficient load bearing capacity for the items within and be of suitable dimensions for any other storage equipment they are used in conjunction with (e.g. they should fit the racking or shelving they are stored upon).  You should also take into account the weight and dimensions of the storage containers or boxes when assessing risk under The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.
